2nd Generation Outer door handle removal

I've been fighting with this damn thing for a good 20 minutes. How do you remove the pushrod for the door latch from the outer door handle without destroying the little plastic clip? I don't have any spares and the nearest parts house is 50 miles away.

Am I just screwed? Will I need to wait until the next time I'm in town to get a replacement clip?

You should be able to pivot the clip out of the way such that it allows the rod to slip out. But, unfortunately, they don't always survive the movement. In any event, I've reassembles more than one door without complete clips and everything seems to have held in place well enough.

Yeah, the pivoting part was easy enough... However, it seems as though there is a captive "ball" on the pushrod, which is held in place by the clip where it is run through the hole. I don't want to break the clip because I have no idea where to get a replacement.

If you do break the clip, there are a bunch available here: https://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Se...neBy_Price=7-9 . I believe the front door ones are p/n 69293-12060 for LH, and the same with 50 at the end for RH.

Thanks for posting the link on those clips. I recently fixed a door handle and NOBODY in town had the part. NAPA offered to order it in for like $18. Several parts stores sold "variety packs", but none fitted.

I ended up just pulling one from a junkyard car. These all eventually break. If you take the door panel off, take the opportunity to grease up the window mechanism.

Good luck.
