2nd Generation Last Minute Help Identifying Hose

I'm one small step from cranking the engine over after many months. I changed the head gasket, cleaned parts, repaired parts, replaced parts, painted and cleaned again.

If you see the photos below I'm looking to identify the one circled in RED, I'm looking to see where the end of this hose connects. It is right next to the PCV hose. The GREEN arrow hose goes to the PCV valve.

This is a photo of the hose when I took the plenum off (I'm glad I took this photo!) the larger diameter hose connects to the PCV valve (Green Arrow)

The end result of my work ( I hope it works and runs !!! )

I'm still hoping someone can chime in....white90dx or Dr J. ???

Well, I couldn't stand it and cranked it up...it started right up and sounded wonderful! Shut if off after 30 seconds though cuz of that hose not being connected. I was surprised I didn't have any smoke coming out...but I cleaned the heck out of everything and the heads/valves were done at a shop.

Taking a stab here, i'm guessing its an EGR pipe. Not sure where it'll go though...

Btw, that is one clean looking engine you got there.

Easy Off did wonders getting all that backed on carbon/oil/grease mess from maninfold, plenum, and valve covers.

That hose connects to one of those skinny pipes on top of the plenum and then goes to another vacuum hose that goes to one of those bvsv thingamajigs. but still looking to find out where the other end connects to. It goes under the plenum alongside the pcv hose, the pcv hose connects to the pcvalve and the other goes?????

A couple of possible suggestions..

(1) Drop by a dealer, check out the on lot,

(2) shop Craig’s list= talk to the owner

Is it long enough to make it down to the Power Steering idle-up valve? (bottom of power steering pump)

Yeahhhh....some more help!

dem2757 - thank you!

white90dx - No, it won't reach that far down. It is a brand new OEM from toyota hose so I know it is the correct size. The pcv hose and the "other" hose came as a complete package.

I just looked at that tube on my engine and it goes no where on mine. It looks like it has been sealed shut probably because it was to close to the engine. I have no idea where it went to, but I plan on trying to find out.

Hmmmm....I am now thinking it might be just a ventilation/breather tube. I was wrong when I earlier stated it connected to the "metal tube then to another vacuum hose that went to a BVSV thingy" It goes to a metal tube then another vacuum hose that connects to the fuel pressure regulator thing on the front fuel rail.....so if one more person can confirm it goes nowhere then maybe it just vents/breathes and the hose is to aim toward the firewall or away from the engine at least.

I THINK that is correct....can someone confirm who actually knows?

My second guess was going to be for the fuel pressure regulator...

Anyway, is there a chance that the vacuum diagram shown on the sticker on the firewall (or is it hood?) shows where the hose goes?

It appears to be some kind of legitimate vacuum line. If you stand on the passengers side of the car and look down behind the intake manifold back on the firewall, the vacuum line goes to a port on some kind of connector/sensor that has a blue connector attached to it. The port is on the drivers side of the connector/sensor with the blue connector attached.

2nd Generation

Holesmanny and White90dx you both are correct! Thanks a Million!

Holesmanny - The connector you are talking about is attached to the valve cover against firewall on my generation. When you said blue connector I had an idea what you were talking about.

Valve cover before cleaned. Red = mystery vacuum hose connection, Green = the electrical connector, Blue = another vacuum hose

Picture after taking the manifold off - Red arrow points to the same thingy.

White90DX - picture of diagram that I had totally forgotten about since I removed the engine hood and placed it on top of the car hood!! It clearly shows that there are two hoses that connect to that thingy and I would have easily known what it was talking about.

Thanks again guys!

Now, I found out my brand new oem thermostat is busted or the wrong model, plus my fan doesn't come on.

I removed the thermostat and the water flows fine now. Wouldn't doubt my local dealership gave me the wrong one - it wouldn't be the first time they've given me a wrong part.

I unplug the fan sensor and the fans work, I turn the AC on and the fans work, I pull the fan relay switch and there is no continuity like the shop manual says there should be.
