'90 camry V6 spark plug issue

I was given a 1990 camry for due to a death in the family. It didn't run due to the spark plug wires were removed by someone. I am finishing repairing the car and just need to replace the plugs now. The problem is that I'm not sure which length plug goes where. I would assume that the shortest plug would go to either cylinder 5 or 6(since they are closest to the cap) but the plug doesn't seem to connect properly with the distributor cap. it seems to be keyed differently then what is on the cap. I verified that both the cap and plugs are correct for this engine, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone tell me which length plug goes where? Thanks for any help you can provide. Now I know why people replace these things one at a time.

I just did this, but can't tell you which ones are longer than the others. I think you're right that the 5 & 6 should be shorter since they are closest to the distrib. My NGK wires were all numbered with a little sticker. Some were a little harder to plug in than the others so maybe you just need to work it a little bit.

By the way, you have the same engine as me...can you help me with my issue?

Looking from the drivers side of the car, 1 wire would be closest to the firewall in the top by the passengers side. 2 wire would be opposite towards the front of the car, the top by the passengers side. 3 would be closer to you in front of the 1 wire. 4 would be closer to you in front of the 2 wire. 5 would be closest to you on the 1,3 wire line. 6 would be closest to you on the 2,4 wire line. The cap normally has the numbers on them. Assuming you've bought a new cap you can just put it on and use the old cap to show you what number goes where on the cap.

The wires should have numbers on them.
