Door still won't open

Well I got my utility knife and cut the inside door panel. Then used grinder to cut off the sheet metal on inside of door so I could get to the two screws holding the lock solenoid. Hoping that when I disconnected the lock solenoid rod it would just be manual locks on that door. NOT!!!

I still can't open the +^&*ing door!!!

So I guess I will have to buy the additional relay that Toyota said was fix for problem years of 87-90. Mine is a 91 and 2 dealers said mine wasn't covered. I hope the part isn't too much because technically my car is not supposed to be affected and I don't know if this will fix it.

Wonder if Radio Shack would have something similar, probably not.

Well I can take back the lock solenoid I got at junk yard because old lock solenoid still moves rod back and forth.

I am so mad and frustrated!!

Don't know what to do.

Could be one of the plastic rod keepers broke and a metal rod fell out that unlatches the door.

Or...could be that you need to unlatch a plastic rod keeper so you can pull the metal rod out of the door solenoid. Then pull or push on the metal rod to unlatch the door and open. Don't need to physically remove the solenoid unless you want to replace it with a new one.

The two screws holding the solenoid in are not normal phillips head or flat head. The two screws are (I think) 'starx' or 'stars' or 'torx' drive. Can't remember the pronunciation. I was in a pick-a-part junk yard a couple months ago and stripped the two screws trying to use a phillips screwdriver and ended up using vise grips on the solenoid screws.

It's called "Torx." Sometimes the offbrand security bits will call them "Tor-x" as the name is trademarked. I recommend you stop and O'Reilly Auto Parts and get their security bit set- it has a bunch of "odd" bits, and then they have a larger set of just the Torx bits. Very useful to have... Like $8 for both sets, too!

What part of the door opening/locking system isn't working? You have to figure that out first...

My manual lock '90 Camry has a sticky lock mechanism on the passenger front door... If you try to pull up the lock post (to unlock the door) it often won't come up. The key on the outside also doesn't work when it is doing that. It takes some banging on the door or lifting and dropping of the outer door handle to get it to come loose to allow the lock to come up and open the door. They key on that door is jarring loose whataver is stuck on the mechanism at the latch itself.

You may have something similar happening that would give the same mechanical symptoms as the non-working door lock relay/solenoid.

Door still won't open

Thanks '88 AllTrac, white90dx, 66conv6 and jonsey1886.

The door magically now works. I didn't do anything further to it since last post. I stuck key in the door lock and it unlocked just like before BUT the door opened. It opens from inside too.

Maybe all that P blaster that was sprayed into it 3-4 days ago loosend it up?

I am not gonna hook the lock solenoid back up, I am superstitous. It will just be a manual lock on that door.
