2nd Generation Help; Shopping for an Auto Transmission (elec. Shift)

Help; Shopping for an Auto Transmission (elec. Shift)

1990 Camry LE 2wd 4cly, Japan mfg.

My transmission is gone & I need to replace it. I thought I had a donor car lined up, but it was donated to a charitable organization, for a $750.00 Tax write off ...

I replaced both axles on 3/01/11, they are push-in. While looking for axles I discovered there are two types for this mod/year (push-in & bolt on). I want to be able to use my new axles on the replacement trans.

I am not sure what model & year to search for?

Are there any indications to look for when selecting a unit. Are low miles a reliable indication?

2nd Generation

Thanks, for responce

So far I have located a trans for $150.00 U-pull, in 1991 Camry wagon W/211K.

Salvage yard tells me the fluid is red and the miles are freeway miles. The car has maintenance records with it and it appears to be well kept.

High miles have me wondering is it worth the $/labor ?

No. Besides that could be a replacement tranny as well

750 for a good deal ona rebuild is better than 150 for an old or replacement tranny. plus if its been sitting the seals are probably done

It's fresh in, fill cap was left off and it ran out of oil, spun the bearings.
