Gen1 '86 Speedo Question

So, I just aquired this 86 for free last week and the speedometer doesn't work. I've tested it from the trans end and nothing happens on the cluster. It has a manual trans and I can't seem to find a relplacement any place. I did locate on on eBay but am not sure I'd the cable for a automatic will work.

If anyone has any input that could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

what exactly are you looking for?
a cluster?

there's like 20 gen 1 camrys locally at the pick-a-part/dismantling yards.
i can pick you up something and ship on your dime.

omg....20?!

I can bearly find 1 on the street none the less 1 in the junk yard (never found one in any of our junk yards on this island...). It's been so hard trying to find parts for mines because even toyota here has discontinued a bunch of stuff for it.

yeah at least 20 all together between 3-4 different salvage yards locally.
i live in california (dry, no rust weather)
so the only reason the cars are there is because the have super high mileage.
none of the gen 1's i seen have body damage.
and most of the motor is intact because no one is looking for the 2-se.
i've seen only 3 manual trannys out of the 20.

i think i'm the only one who pulls parts from them.
and one of the junk yards just got a new gen 1 in, i never seen it there.
i already got the front/rear mudflaps from it

next weekend, the yard is having a 50 percent off sale
and ill be going back to get the LE Alloy Rims w/ 80 percent tread on the tires still.
I'll get the rim/tire set for $80
a front fender for $20, and the hood for $25 (my hood, fender has dents)
i need the ignition w/ key, it'll cost $10.
that's all i need. my car is cherry as it is.

p.s. if you need a cluster mr.clean, it will be $15 from the junkyard

my mechanic is a toyota tech and he orders parts for me also.
most the motor parts he can still get.
he just did a bunch of work for my motor.
it's running so good with 125,000 original miles now.

and as far as 1st gens on the road.
i see one, once a week at least.
none of them are clean.
all are beaters or daily drivers.
some guy with a 2nd gen cam complimented me the other day on my gen 1
because mine was older than his and in better condition.

Lucky.

I'm one of the few GEN1's on the road here. I see a few, but the worst one is all rusted out (you could see the side inner structure) with a clear plastic glass on the back windshield...something fell on the back roof or it collapse from rust. There are no immaculate/good looking ones here. I want to get mines looking good, but there's so much stuff I gotta get worked on body wise. I had a chance to pick up an immaculate Gen1 '83 LE w/ every option it had earlier this year, but I had some financial issues since I had to pay for a friend's plane ticket and some other stuff - think I missed a deal of a lifetime....

If your going to be down at the junk yard, I was gonna to ask if you wouldn't mind to try look for a few things for me? No pressure if you can/cannot. I'm just trying to find other ways to get parts since the local junk yard here that I normally go to try 'find' a car I need parts from overcharge out of the ying yang (rediculious prices!)...and thats is IF they even have it.

I just took a look at your first thread. Mines looks just like that...except it has rust, paint chips, minor dents. Mines was orginally blue, but painted white. I got a #$%^ rust all over my roof area and trunk. Leaks.... I hate the islands for the fact that everything that is metal will rust. One day when I got enough to fix it...I will, but until then I just gotta try do my best to slow it down.

what do you need from the junkyard?
i mean anything that is easy enough to ship.
i'm sure it will be somewhat expensive to hawaii.
(idk. usps, fedex, ups, which is cheaper?)
if i find some of the stuff you need, i'll ship on your dime once you paypal me.

i'm willing to help because i feel like we're the only two gen 1's logging onto here.
can't let gen 1 members die out!

Thank you so much. I really do appreciate it.

I'll pm you with a list since we're going sorta OT of the tread, most times later on today or early tomorrow as I got work in a few hours and school tomorrow. From what I've seen, USPS is the cheapest, especially their flat rate boxes. I’ll cover the parts and the shipping plus add in for your work. I don't think they got any flat rate boxes for the window channels (I'll take a pic of that) though, so that may have to be by weight (they are pretty light). Pretty much I need a bunch of small stuff. The larger stuff is all body stuff, so not too bad. Let me go around my car and see the small things I going to need.
