Last night from a salvage yard I picked up a 1987 trans w/138k (involves a little faith..) from a Camry w/blown head gasket.

The trans had a stub axle with the six bolt flange. My 1990 Camry has a spline socket, at the Yard we popped out the sub axle and it appears that my axles will now fit the same spline socket.

Q: I would like to confirm this trans will work before I install it in the car,

because of the snap ring I would rather not insert my axle until it’s installed

Sorry, I can't confirm one way or the other. Your axles SHOULD work though. Worst case, you have to go back and get the matching axles from that car or one with a similar setup. The wheel hub side will for sure be the same.
