2nd Generation All new struts

i just recently got some monroe sensatrac struts. all 4. and rear sway bar links. and my car still is pretty harsh on bumps and potholes. my gfs honda accord 97 with no maintnence done (struts are old) rides so damn smoothly.

one thing is the springs wernt changed because they couldnt find any for my car.

its a very nice stiff ride, which alot of people like but my gf's dont like it!. help! hahahaha

will they soften with a little time?

I was thinking about the fact that your car was jerking when going into reverse and park and I'm thinking maybe your mounts are bad which is making the motor jerk and the suspension sounds like it's harsh. You might wanna try looking at your mounts.

How many miles are on your car? If it has a lot you may need to replace control arm and sway bar bushings. It's odd that you say that cause I have KYB on mine and they are really soft, actually too soft for me. It maybe the monroe is a little stiffer, I've never had any experience with them so I personally couldn't say.

A sporty suspension (Stiffer)will ride rougher than a luxury (Softer)suspension. It could be that your suspension is riding exactly how it was designed to ride but it's simply not as soft as you would like it to be.

I'm currently debating which aftermarket suspension kit to go with myself for my 93 XLE v6 Camry. It's got 180k but the struts have all been replaced with in the past year by the previous owner. I think I'm going to start fresh and do a complete front and back suspension rebuild once we determine what all needs replaced. At a minimum I suppose I'll be replacing struts and springs and sway bar/bar links. Probably a couple of other things... won't know till we take a look I suppose.

Who makes a nice complete kit for these cars? Something nice and cushy. I don't want anything that drives like a tank. I don't care how "sporty" they claim it to be. I've got my "other ride" for fun driving purposes.

its got 170 as of yesterday. and i dont think it needs any bushings or anything. i had the whole suspension looked over and they didnt mention it.

but yes very stiff ride on those shocks.corners pretty well. wish i had some racing seats and a harness (; gonna throw a front strut bar on the front. mostly for looks i guess. worried itll make it ever harsher though so i prolly shouldnt.

not sure about any kits. for these cars you just gotta buy the parts. might be able to find a set of rear or front struts together or the monroe quick struts. thats about it.

3rd Generation

I put a new set of tires on my 93. It previously had 3 different tires and 2 different sizes. They all needed replaced and I can't imagine any of them were much good not too mention balanced properly. The new tires smoothed the ride incredibly well taking out the 60 mph shimmy that was so prevalent prior to the tire swap. Ride improved 110% for sure. Struts are good but a slew of other things need replaced. Brakes are pulsating and the rear suspension has a few issues that I'll be addressing soon. The front suspension is in surprisingly good shape.

Anybody have a picture of the rear sway bar on these Gen 3 Camry's. Mine feels like it goes down the road sorta like a boat. It sways a bit. So I'm wondering if it even has a sway bar connected up back there. The shop guys didn't make any mention of anything missing though.
