2nd Generation Tail light brightness uneven

Ive got the 91 camry dx.

my left tail light is brighter than the other side.

i do have leds in the "trunk" tail lights. ever sence then my light malfunction light on the dash comes on usually.

all of the lights are new so i know thats not it.
all turn signals work and everything and also the grounds on the sockets are tight.

what to do what to do!?

The light failure sensor thinks the center tail light bulb is out since the LED light draws less current.

You can replace all the brake light bulbs with the exact same bulbs from the store, or (cheaper) you can try switching the bulbs around to see if you just have one bright one. As for the grounds, remove them, clean them (sandpaper) and put them all back. Also check the metal reflectors to make sure they are clean.

I actually have one slightly brighter tail light on my Alltrac, but it is because one of the 4 sections is an replacement part (not sure if it is just newer OEM or what).

Let us know what you find.

Ahh i see. yeah i figured the older car wasnt use to the technology or w.e.
i would replace them all but the way the tail lights are (besides the ones on the trunk) face sideways and the leds i have arnt on a 90 degree angle.

anyways it could also be because my tails are tinted. slightly more tint on one.
but then again they were uneven before i tinted.

i will clean the contacts. metal refectors are as clean as can be. actually all there is, is a metalic looking sticker behind the bulb. but its clean.

also the p,r,n,d light on the dash. only comes on sometimes, same with the shifter selector. its very annoying. looks like some kinda weird bulbs in there?

Charlie does the TL sensor work off the difference of current or resistance reference ?

A question about system function, I’m not questioning your response

I don't know the exact details of the internals. I haven't pulled on apart to check. I do know it is very sensitive to low (LED) or no (broken filament) load situations.
