how much oil 4 cyl?

How much oil does it hold to be right on full? i put about 4 qts and then a little more. but now it seems to be lower than full but not too close to the middle.

just want to know for when i change it next time.
compression test showed 200 psi on all cylinders and it doesnt smoke at all. but i havent seen any leaks. engine is dirty with sludge everwhere but nothing looking wet like its recent (done alot of work).

At the Toyota dealership I work at we put 4gts in our engines. We don't see many but we normally put between 3.8 to 4.3ish.

Go with 4 quarts. Its ok if the level is a bit low, and it also matters when you check the oil level. If there is still oil in the filter and up in the engine (recently run motor), then the oil level will read a bit lower than it actually is.

Try to keep it between the full mark and halfway up, and you'll be fine.

Alright! any advice on oil weight and brand for the summer? i was using castrol gtx, but the place i got it changed at was treating me very poorly so im going to do it myself.

When I change my Camry oil AND filter together, I put in 4 quarts right away, start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes, then shut the engine off and add another 0.5 quarts. After sitting for several hours, I check the oil level (car MUST be parked on a level surface) and 4.5 quarts always puts the oil level exactly on the FULL mark of the dipstick. I use Castrol GTX 10W-30.

I use 10-40 wt with a 3/4qt of Lucas oil treatment. I just finished my Corolla w/272K mi on it, 45min ago.
