If you're thinking about the stock speaker locations in the lower dash, forget it. The speakers in there are 3.5"-4". The small speaker actually mounts to a factory plastic speaker box behind each of the speaker grilles.

I changed those out when I had my gen2 as my front speakers went bad also. At the time, I installed 4" blaupunkt speakers (from Crutchfield, actually). For 4" speakers, they sounded pretty decent (the speaker box helped), but to me, they were mainly for vocals.

I relied on the back speakers to provide the bass.

no i dont need speakers for bass. lol. i have a 12 and a 10 in the trunk and a mtx thunder 152 amp. ive got plenty.

i pulled everything. i got the 6.5s to fit in the front. nice and flush cant even tell that theres some big boys behind there. everything looks stock.

ditched the speaker boxes.
should of hooked them up to my amp. cause theyll be underpowered. but they do sound nice. just finishing up the driver side and it started pouring lol.
seriously i think if you wanted too you could fit even bigger ones back there.
