2nd Generation 89 Alltrac 5spd

So I finally found an 89 alltrac in CO a few weeks ago and went and drove it home to MN with 275k miles It's ghetto spray painted black but doesn't have much rust (2" spot on top of the right rear wheel well).

I've been researching the 3sgte swap. I was planning to do a diff swap to a 205, but I found that the camry has the same epcs as the st165. I believe I wouldn't need to swap this, but I can't find any info on the center diff since the camry has the locking diff feature.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mechanically, its pretty much a direct swap for all of it. Let me know if you have any specific questions...

Edit... what do you mean by EPCS?

Electronic parts catalog. The subframe and rear diff part numbers and hardware are the same as the 165 and the jza70. I'm starting to get confused now lol. Some say this and some say that, so I finally looked up the oem part numbers and they're pretty much all the same. The difference between the jza70 and 165 is that the 165 has drain plug parts and the jza80 doesnt. The camry has all the same as the 165 + a few different parts. I haven't matched exactly all the parts yet. It was too late last night. But here are the links.

Supra: http://toyota-usa.epc-data.com/supra.../chassis/4101/
Camry: http://toyota-usa.epc-data.com/camry.../chassis/4101/

I believe these are the links. It's on my home computer and I'm in class atm on the laptop. I'll recheck the links when I get home.

The rear diff is 100% compatible between the ST165, ST185, ST205 and SV25. There are two options - the torsen (optional on ST185, standard on ST205) and the open version. As long as they are complete with stub axles, they are a direct swap. They are all 2.89:1, which matches the ring and pinion in all of the transmissions from those same cars (including the SV25 auto).

The locking center diff feature was also on the early (JDM) ST165's, but the manual transmission is swappable between all those cars listed above also. Use your stock mounts, shift cables, etc. and everything bolts in.

There are small issues depending on what generation 3s-gte you choose, but they are all easy to get around.

Thanks for clearing LOTS of stuff up Charlie. I've read a TON of your posts and boy you sure know your stuff. I'll keep everything you've said in mind.

I'm still doing my interior door panels, dash and carpet, looking for a color my wife likes. I'm just testing it out atm as a first timer so I'm hoping it turns out. Nothing flashy, just plain but different from oem.

I want to be as close to 100% knowledgeable about the whole swap before I do it to avoid as much mistakes as possible to reduce costs.
