Clogged Exhaust?
My car: a 91 Camry with 3SFE motor. Just a little over 200k miles.
Problem: Major decrease in power when trying to accelerate above 35 MPH. Hose from EGR regulator to EGR valve keeps blowing off. Replaced EGR and EGR regulator, same problem of hose blowing off and lack of power. Exhaust just started leaking around upper corner of exhaust manifold. Could a clogged catalytic converter be the cause?
Per the event that the convert is clogged, I don't know if I would replace it or just "gut" the existing converter. We don't have emissions testing out here, so I wouldn't have to worry about that. Has anyone here ever done this with this motor? What were your results?
I haven't had an opportunity to measure exhaust back pressure or vacuum to confirm a clogged exhaust. The exhaust system from the cat converter and back has all been replaced within the last few years.
