3sfe removing engine wireing harness

I'm going to be removing the engine and from my 1991 camry 3sfe and I've been searching the forums on how to do it. so far I've got a game plan ready but the only part I'm not sure about is how to go about the wiring harness. from difference forum posts, I'm not sure if it's easier to unplug every wire from the engine or pull the wires through the firewall. I'm sort of leaning towards pulling the wires through the firewall but I really am not sure how to do that. so far i know there is something behind the glove box that i have to get to. can anyone clarify for me? thanks.

The official method is to pull the harness out of the inside of the car and lay it on the engine when you remove the engine.

Remove the glove box and passenger side lower dash panel, pull back the carpet where the ECU is (center, behind/below the radio). Unplug all the plugs (7+ plugs, depending on trim) and carefully push/pull it into the engine bay.

that's exactly what i needed to know. Thank you very much! I was going to just unplug all of the wires from the engine and take ALOT of pictures, but this sounds far easier. My car just hit the 310,000 mile mark and my stock clutch went out so I'm pulling the engine to replace the clutch, oil pump seal, and any other necessary seal.

You can do a clutch job with the engine still in the bay if you want... though you might need a strong friend or two to get the trans back on the motor.

Good luck, whichever way you choose to go.

Yeah I'd already thought about that when I replaced the clutch on a 1981 Mazda GLC the other day with the engine still in the bay. it was just to much of a hassle to do again, and now that i know where to disconnect the wiring harness it won't take me to long.
