Yay, I got power steering again.

Well thanks be to God, I have my power steering working again on my gen2 after being without it for months now.

The rack was leaking like crazy. I had been putting a little engine oil in the power steering fluid to swell the bad seals so it would slow the leak, which worked for while. But the leak got so bad, that if i filled the system and drove to work and parked, by the day's end, it would all be out on the ground.

So after spending thousands of dollars (JMD of course) on power steering fluid, I decided not to fill the system, seeing as it was making a gaping hole in my pockets and making oily stains and messes everywhere i parked.

The steering was tough as blocks to maneuver (especially when the car was stationary) but my patience paid off and The Lord provided me with the funds to get it resealed.

It took me a half day to get it out (i was working alone, plus this is the first time i've removed a R&P), hardest part apart from rushing to get it out before the rain came down, was actually trying to physically take it out after disconnecting everything. I ended up having to remove the tie rod end from the passenger side of the rack end in order for it to slide on out from below.

Got it out just in time too, the rain came as i was about to get it out. The specialists that i left it with to be reconditioned took an entire day, they said that the shaft was in a bad condition, so they had to do some additional polishing to it)

I hardly recognized it when i picked it up the next day. I had to ask them what they used to clean it cuz as you can see, it was in horrible condition.

I did manage to get it mounted and connected in much less time than it took me to get it out.

I measured the threaded section on the rack end for the side i didn't pull the tie rod off of, and screwed on the tie rod end i removed to the same length (although i know it should be aligned).

It's really temp til i can get some funds together for new tires, control arm bushings (again), tie rod ends and rack ends (no sense aligning with bad suspension parts, not like they would align it with 'em anyway).

I did check the service manual and it has a section that reads "Standard tie rod end adjustment 1mm _+ 1mm. I'm not sure what that means.

It's fine now and no leaks Thank God.
