98 Camry gears make clicking sound when I try and start it....

My camry won't start. When I try and turn the key the dashboard lights work, but the gears near the starter are making a clicking sound. No power at all. Could this be a battery problem or Starter problem? Thanks.

Multiple rapid clicking is usually an indication of a weak battery or corroded connections at the battery posts/terminals. Remove the terminals and clean the battery posts and the battery cable terminals. You can buy a tool for doing this for a few dollars at most auto parts stores. If that doesn't solve the problem, then try to jumpstart the car and take it to a place like Autozone where they will check your battery and charging system for free. You will more than likely need a new battery, if the current battery is more than 4 years old.

PS: Your 98 Camry is a 4th generation Camry, so you actually posted this in the wrong forum. Good thing the problem you are experiencing is generic accross all years.

I'll agree with that. Try it out and see what happens. If not, just reply back to this thread
