re: 1989 Camry Wagon, paint prep question
Aloha Folks-
after I finish the maintenance work on this wagon, I hope to get the exterior resprayed. It is a light metallic blue and the bumpers are also painted.
I am thinking about keeping the same color but possible painting the bumpers a type of black in order to wear better if you know what I mean. Have some of you done this and if so, what type of black paint do you use? Is it best to remove the bumpers? If so, any tips on the removal?
I also have a rack on the top and of course the molding around the car. How hard is it to remove the molding? Is there a certain tool for removing it safely so that it can be reused? Any concerns about removing the rack and the molding pieces on top of the roof?
I also wish I could remove some of the pieces around the windows, like the chrome trim, and such for the painter. The more prep work I am told, the better the paint job.
So, any tips on what to remove would be great, so that the main thing the painter has to do is "tape and paint."
Lastly, what kind of paint jobs do you recommend like single stage, multiple stage? I am not sure how many coats of paint should be used and same for the clear coat. And for these Toyota's which brand of paint is good to use? Thanks for all your help and advice.
Mahalo,
glen
