check engine light?

Went out of town this weekend and overall the car ran great just like last time. The only issue we had was the check engine light came on going up a couple of the passes. Now it did come on the last time I made that trip but only up the last pass and went off ass soon as we hit the top, but this time took it a little more to turn off. The car runs fine the only thing that happened was we slowed down because if the grade. Coming home we only have to climb one pass and it didn't come on but did on the last trip. Anybody have an idea why this would be happening?

Check the code and tell us what it is. Even if the light is off, there should still be a code stored.

Oh ...I can answer this question! You get a paper clip, then straighten it out and turn it into a "U" shape. Then on the check connector stick one end into terminal TE1 and the other into E1, make sure both ends goes all the way down into the slots.

Then turn the ignition to the "on" position and if there are any codes it will blink, for example.....blink blink '1.5 second pause' blink blink blink '2.5 second pause' blink '1.5 second pause' blink blink.....then after a 4.5 second pause it repeats the blinks again. This means codes 23 and 12.
