revving in neutral, throttle hang?

Ive noticed that sometimes while driving, when i shift to neutral (manual tran) my engine will either stay at the driving rpms or actually increase rpms in neutral. most often occurs when im coming to a stop and shift to neutral. Revving returns to normal idle simply by tapping on the gas pedal, so this hasnt been a huge issue, but im wondering why it happens and if it could be affecting other areas. ive done some searching online and "throttle hang" seems to come up. My buddy also said it could be a vacuum leak, but that could mean many things to me.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. And if this is a reposted problem, if you could direct me to a thread that discusses it fully that would be great. tried searching but couldnt find the same problem described

How long has it been since the throttle body was cleaned?

You can easily check the functioning of the throttle plate by just operating it by hand (with the engine off...). If you feel any sticky spots, get in there and clean it up.

There is also a minor possibility that something is mechanically wrong/broken rather than just dirty. There are a few throttle stop screws, and stuff like that that might be causing problems.

Just open the hood and check it out first and let us know what you find.

I had the problem on my 5-speed as well, now happens intermittantly. It would also "pulse" at idle. I swapped out the IAC unit, which was done by just swapping out the whole TB from a junkyard car.

Keep in mind that the 5-sp TB has a different TPS and connecton than the auto.

Good luck.
