I'm currently running maxlife 10w-40 with good results. I notice a slight increase in power and fuel economy with 10w40 compared to 10w30 and with your mileage I say a little thicker oil would help with the leaks...

re: oil

Aloha Camry_Rocks and blu_91-

I too was wondering about this. Folks in my area just say to use "castrol" and whatever oem would be. So, does the 10w40 offer a little more protection or time between changes? Mahalo.

the car was meant to use 5w-30 colder weather or 10w-30 in warm weather. This is basically the thickness of oil the pump can handle, and the tolerances can handle. too thick and you are not gonna get enough oil to certain parts, same thing if its too thin.

Well using one grade higher on your hot side is an old trick to help slow down leaks and oil consumption. And on that note 20w-60 is way too thick. I think 10w30 is recommended OEM but I feel that 10w-40 runs a little better on my car and helps protect alittle better in hot ass Texas.

10w 40 would be fine as long as thecar uses it only in the hotter weather. nothing higher though please for the sake of his engine!!!! haha

Way too thick. You're looking at diesel weights with the 50 and 60w oils. I recommend 10w40 max during summer running if you live somewhere hot. I run 5w30 in winter and 10w30 in summer where I am and I'll still sometimes catch the idiot light for the oil.

I've been using delo 15-40 diesel oil for years. Slows the oil leaks and never had any negative side effects.

I have a 1989 Camry with 272,000 miles on it and I use 20w-50 in it year round with no problems at all. The cars rear main seal has been leaking for at least 2 years now and I have been using the thicker weight oil to slow the leak down. Really dont feel like pulling the transmission to replace the seal. It works for me. Yah that 20w-60 oil might be a little too thick.
