2nd Generation Replacing caliper brake hoses on 89 Camry LE

Hi all. First, I know nothing about Toyota's, but I'm pretty mechanically inclined, so I'm hoping with a little help here, I can help a friend out.

She was told during her state inspection that she has "cracked front brake hoses" that need to be replaced. My first thought was, "Cracked brake hoses would leak fluid. No way" but she is still currently driving the car.

I found the parts on rockauto for about 7 bucks each, and I'm just wondering if there are any hiccups I should expect in replacing these. Is this just a standard disc brake with a bleeder valve and brake hoses that screw in to the bleeder valve? Anything special I should look out for?

Thanks.

Terry

Nothing really special to look for really, replace line then bleed the brakes again. Having flare wrenches would really be helpful though.

1) The cracks on the outer jacket on the Toyota front brake hoses is common; this is result of aging plus normal hose movement as front wheels are turning left to right
2) Most aftermarket hoses fit both sides while OEMs are produced as Left and right.
3) Due to the area this car is used you will need to pay special attention to the upper hose to line connection
a) clean the outside of the line fitting and apply kerosene or brake fluid to the threads few times before proceeding;
b )USE 10MM FLARE NUT wrench!!; Grab the metal hose end with vise grips (or 17 mm wrench) to prevent line twisting
c) loosen all connections while hose is still clipped to the body and strut brackets
