Unhappy Dash indicators “Charge --Brakes—Lights” remaining on.

The car had been sitting for three days, I started it up & drove it ~ 200 ft, hit a couple of rough spots on a gravel road, they lit up like a slot machine... and stay lit " whished I was"

I un-hooked the “B”-wire from the alternator and measured 14.9 VDC at 2,000 rpm.

The alternator appears to be charging strong, is this an indication it’s about to fail or is there something /somewhere I should be checking?

The battery is sitting at 12.7 VDC

Hate like hell to get stuck somewhere

Those lights mean that the regulator thinks that something is wrong.

How is the voltage at the battery when the motor is running at ~2k rpm (with all the wires hooked up)?

Reseat the alternator plug too.

Conceivably the the small fusible link (hidden in the harness, I think...) could be busted. Check for 12+V at the small white wire at the alternator to check that fusible link.

In fact, all the wires at that connect to the alternator (3 small on the plug, 1 big on the stud/nut) should be at 12+V when the car is running...

What is the best way to test for VDC at the alt plug ? (3-wire)

Can it be probed from the backside while still conected?

It is probably a sealed connector. You would have to use a sharp probe through the wire insulation, I think.

There is 12VDC on the male side (wire) of the plug, 0 VDC on the female side (Alt socket) . It appears that I am not getting any output now.. from the “B” no change with the RPM

I pulled the Alt, I plan to have it bench tested this afternoon, The brushes have about ˝” remaining and the commentator looks good, I am thinking it might be the Reg.

I have located a salvaged one for $30.00 w/core EX

I am thinking I'll go this way after bench test

Almost always when all the lights on the dash are on, it's the alternator. That's an easy way to figure it out on older Toyotas.

What threw me was when I first tested w/multi-meter the alternator was producing ~ 14 VDC.

I had done an AT R&R earlier and thought I might have loose Elec. connections. After TS the wiring I came back to the Alt & sure enough I had a hard fail at the Alt. Bench tested it and no VDC output. R&R w/salvaged unit, everything is fine

Thanks for your input J
