2nd Generation Rear Headliner panel will not stay in place

Afternoon everyone, I've been looking for a way to keep headliner panel (The metal strip inside at the back window) in place. When I purchased the car it was hanging down, held in place only by the two plastic clips on either end. The remaining four clips had broken at some point.
So I picked up some adhesive-backed velcro which worked fine until that next morning when the sun hit the roof top. Hot metal surface does not suit adhesives... duh
Next I made a trip to my local pick-n-pull parts where I recovered several unbroken clips.
Today I removed the back seat and both left and right side garnish plastics, puled the metal strip out and installed the replacement clips.

Attempted to reinstall but the clips will not catch in the holes of the roof top. I suppose when I removed them from the wrecked car I managed to shave off just enough plastic so they will no longer catch.

They slide in just fine but will not lock in place.

Basically, I want this metal strip in its proper place and not hanging. Not a functional issue but I really hate driving around with the thing looking like a junker going down the road...

Any ideas what I could use to get the piece in order so that it will not come back down?

I tried to attach some pics but apparently I'm not allowed? So they can be viewed here... hopefully.

Thanks in advance!

My first suggestion was going to be to get those clips new from the dealer, but it doesn't look like they are available separately.

Could you just put a layer or two of electrical tape over the clips to 'fatten' them up a bit? That might help lock them in place. I used that trick in my Subaru to get rid of a few rattling sounds from similar clips.
