91 Camry rear hub/bearing assembly question

I searched around everywhere for gen2 rear hub assemblies and could only find the bearings without the spindle, so I decided to go to the junkyard to see what they had. I found a decent looking rear hub assembly (much better than mine) that at least sounds like it's spinning freely instead of a can full of marbles.

One thing I noticed though was that as I removed it from the hub seat, there was grease just inside the outer edge. I took a pic of the back of this assembly. Is there supposed to be a wheel seal right outside which covers the inner and outer race? The only seal that was on this was the usual hub seat o-ring.

It's kind of amazing that the grease doesn't sling out without more of a seal. I'm also guessing that the grease on the inside edge of the seat wasn't a good thing. I'll have to take the one off my car and see what it looks like. Thanks for the reply.
