Fuel gauge shows full when tank empty

I have a 1986 Camry. Two weeks ago, I tried filling the tank, but the pump can't shutting off. This has happened before I decided to just get gas later. When I started car, the fuel gauge went to Full and has stayed there ever since. Every time I try to add gas to the tank, the pump cuts off. If I keep trying, gas overflows out.

What might be wrong and how do I fix it?

most likely the in tank fuel sensor. not sure what is required to replace it. you might be able to get to it from inside the car or have to drop the tank.

Sounds almost like something is blocking up the filler hose. Even if the gauge reads full, you should be able to add fuel if you've used some...
