2nd Generation '90 Camry throttlebody issues

OK folks, here's my dilema. '90 camry 3sfe auto, 250k miles. The car was running perfectly before I decided to clean the pcv pipe. The opening at the thottle body was completely clogged with crud so I scraped what I could out with a screwdriver. When I started it, I'm sure a bunch of the crud was sucked into the engine. It ran rough for a few minutes and then wouldn't start. I removed and cleaned the throttle body with t-body cleaner and blew out all the ports with compressed air. Nothing is clogged. Then removed and cleaned the EGR valve. No leaks, not clogged or stuck open. Compression is 150 in three cylinders and 140 in one. Have spark and fuel. After sitting for a few days, it might start with difficulty and idle ok but stumbles upon any acceleration. Holding the throttle open it sounds like it has a miss. The plugs are sooty black (not oily) indicating a very rich mixture that I can also smell. Maybe I have damaged the IAC valve or TPS with the t-body cleaner? Can I test these? any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanx! Rodger

Change out those spark plugs - NGK or Denso standard coppers, please. It should be a cheap thing to try.

Any chance you have a broken intake pipe (between the airbox and throttle body)?

The cleaner is unlikely to have caused problems with the TPS or IAC...

Make sure you have not pulled out any wires leading to the sensors nearby

2nd Generation

Plugs are good, no holes in airbox tube, and all connectors are tight. I would think I would get a code if one of the sensors were bad or unhooked. When I can get it started, which is rare, you can smell the rich condition really bad. This leads me to think maybe the throttle position sensor is sending an open throttle signal even when it's closed. Don't quite know how to test it. Hayne's manual has some tests but none seem conclusive. Maybe start swapping out sensors from a junkyard? Need to get this car going. Shootin' for 300k miles!

go to alldatadiy.com to purchase a subscription but first do a search for an online discount code. You're going to have to adjust the tps when you put the new one on, but ya that's what I would do, assuming you're certain that you didn't yank any wires out of any electrical connectors.

Do you have a good spark every time you cranking an engine?
if you have teradrop 4 connections TP sensor the car may run with unplugged one (my 87 does) the box type sensor will set the code 51
