Intermediate steering shaft replacement

Anyone know how to replace the intermediate steering joint/shaft? It looks like it involves removing stuff under the dash. I searched but didn't find anything for the gen 2, is it basically the same as other cars?

Are you just talking about the part of the steering shaft with the u-joint? If so, it is done all within the engine bay. There are two pinch/lock bolts that hold it in place and then you can just slide it off (you have to remove the bolts completely to slide it off).

Why are you replacing it?

Have fun getting everything back aligned after the swap...

Thanks, the car in the pic is the donor, the rubber in the joint in the other car is worn out, so there is a bunch of play in the steering, the donor car has no play in the steering at all so I wanted to part it out.

As you said, undo the bolts and (after whacking with a sledge hammer for a couple of minutes) it slid right off. I thought this was going to be difficult but it turned out to be fairly easy, we'll see how how easy it is on the other car in a few days lol.

Well just installed it and it cleaned up the play in the steering atleast 80% (I think I may have damaged the lower splines when removing it form the the other car), getting the steering wheel to line up was sort of a pain, basically 15 minutes to remove it and put the "new" one on, and about an hour to line it up properly. Very satisfying, if anyone needs to replace this it's fairly easy.
