Need to disconnect power antenna motor

Have a 1986 Camry. Antenna makes grinding noise everytime radio is turned off/on. Need to know how to disconnect the antenna motor so the noise stops. Don't care about replacing antenna, just need to know which wire to disconnect or cut.

Know where the wires and motor are, but have no idea which wires are which and online searches are not helping. Need help so I don't damage something important under there.

Why not just unplug the motor completely? The antenna connection will be separate.

Thanks for the suggestion, but how would I unplug it? It's a jumbled mess in the little alcove where everything is and I have no idea what is what. Do you have a link to a diagram of the radio/stereo wiring?

Not in trunk

I have an 86 Camry, so my antenna assembly is in the front passenger side door well, not the trunk. I need a diagram to identify the parts because the space in there is a jumble of wires and such and nothing is labeled, so I have no idea what to disconnect and what not to.

I have not been able to find a diagram online. Any help in that regard would be greatly appreciated.

If you have an aftermarket stereo, it should be easy to find the antenna control wire and cut it (behind the radio). If not, there is a chance the wire color is the same on the gen1 Camry as the gen2 Camry (purple with blue tracer).

Otherwise, you are just going to have to stick your head up in there and figure it out. Based on what I see in the pictures of a gen1, the antenna motor, etc. should be under the fender, not inside the car - have you tried pulling back the wheel well liner and looking there?

have not checked wheel well

No, have not tried looking behind wheel liner, but the noise does sound like it is coming from closer to there than where I have been looking.

Thanks to everyone who has made a suggestion, I appreciate it.
