all of the sudden my transmission runs like new

I don't really know what to say, but for the last few days my tranny is runnin' like it's brand new. I did a few drain and fills again but it was still running normally and then all of the sudden it just is running like a pro. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the radiator was partially clogged in the auto tranny portion of it and somehow got unclogged. I think the radiator is original and the car has 160k now so that's really all I can think of. Has anyone ever pressure tested the tranny portion and seen it clogged up ?

The reason I say this and people probably remember my other threads about my car making a clunking sound at idle and that just doesn't happen now. That's why I was thinking it was overheating and now it just isn't. Also it would be jerky at times at acceleration and it's just so smooth now.

Transmission fluid gets nasty over time. Because of this, the tranny box becomes jammed with sludge buildup and shifting from gear to gear becomes hampered. Usually, tranny oil is bright red, but overtime and wear, it becomes darker and darker with metal deposits from the gears. If it smells like burning, someone drove the car way too hard and could have transmission issues. It usually takes a while for new tranny oil to wash off the gunk from the last batch.

Remember that you do not do tranny flushes, only drain and refills because during a flush you may knock off whatever the sludge was holding together in the tranny box, leading to a dead car in need of a tranny rebuild.

Yeah, you're probably right. It tooks a few days for the sludge to get pulled off by the newer fluid.
