the v6 before 90-91 i think was missing a few sensors. something was different though. it should bolt right up though. i know the 88-89 camry v6 didnt have an 02 sensor. that might be the only difference

You mean Knock Sensor, not O2 sensor. If you swap over all the external components (mainly wiring harness and sensors) you can use the 90-91 V6 motor on the earlier cars. The later cars have more trouble using the early engine because it is missing the hole in the block for the knock sensor (need to drill and tap, at the very least).

I found a 2.5L 2VZFE with 140k miles coming out of a wrecked 90 lexus. they are asking $400 for it. Reading your post I take it I should also get the whole wiring harness with it to make sure everything hooks up.

That would be secondary O2 sensors, and even then it wasn't on all the cars. All North American gen2 Camrys (4's and 6's) had a main oxygen sensor.

As for the motor, it should be fine as long as it is taken care of. Use all the electronics from your current motor. No need for the wiring harness or computer from the new motor.
