sticky throttle

Hey guys, I have a 1989 Camry 4cyl. and my issue is that when it’s cold in the morning and I turn the car on and apply the throttle for the first time in the morning, I have to push kinda hard because its stuck. After the morning or when it’s warm it works fine. Again, only when it’s cold in the morning. If I let my car warm up after I start it and don’t push the throttle until its warm, it doesn’t do it.

Our '91 had the adjustment screws on the throttle body come out of adjustment, so the butterfly plate would wedge against the inside of the TB. Might be your issue as well; ours was always worse about sticking when it was cold.

Most problems with sticking throttles are caused by a dirty/gunked up throttle body. Try cleaning your throttle body. Do a search for "throttle body cleaning". It's been covered here numerous times.

Ditto on the Throttle Body ...

I just removed mine and cleaned it with throttle body (spray).
Made sure to clean the butterfly valve well (both sides) and sprayed each of the vacuum line ports as well as the idle speed adjustment port.
Took about 20 minutes total.

Oh, may as well clean out the Plenum (Air Chamber) while you're at it then run Sea-Foam through your PVC and Brake Vacuum Booster. Not hard to do, should probably wear latex gloves throughout the process, it can be messy and that throttle body cleaner is not the best stuff to have soaking into your skin.
