multiple transmission solenoid codes

Hello,
I have a 1988 Camry with 110,000 miles. The OD off light is blinking. I shorted the ECT terminal and the E1 terminal in the diagnostics box on the right side of the engine compartment to get the code via the flashing OD light. codes 61, 62, 63, and 64 appeared. Since there are so many codes do these solenoids share a common signal path to check first? hoping to kill 4 birds with one stone, so to speak. I read about testing the solenoids with a battery, i have not done that yet. The car seems to drive ok, the engine lugs at about 40 mph, or climbing a hill, unless I really get on it. The car is a 4 cylinder. Thank you for a great forum and resource.

connector pin-out

Thank you,
I found in another thread, that you mentioned what colors go to the 3 solenoids. what are the other
wire(s) on the connector connected to? I will check all of these tonight when I get back to it.
Thanks again.

Unhappy solenoid location...

Thank you Dr. J, I found 2 broken wires at the connector, and checked the solenoids with a battery, no clicking. I removed the pan, the filter and cannot find the solenoids. I am new to this transmission work obviously. I looked in the A140 manual and it does not mention removal of the valve body. Do I have to remove the body and the tubes to get to the solenoids? this may be beyond my skill level... thanks again.

This picture should help unplug the wires from solenoids and test solenoids by using fresh 9v battery (+goes to the spade on the solenoid end, "-" goes to the valve body)
(shown with filter removed)

solenoid location...

thank you for the picture. It appears that if I remove the bolts indicated, that will give me access to the solenoids, correct? They are currently not visible. I will use this picture when I get home tonight for round two of the project.

Take a look on this thread
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=65361
I would start with continuity checking between the solenioid connector(s) and 5 pin connector, black & white wires (these wires may be broken somewhere else, perhaps when entering the tranny)
If your tranny looks different then one on the picture snap a little picture of it and post it to the forum

very new to this

Dr. J,
Thank you for all of your help. After not seeing the solenoids no matter what I did, I did more research and found that the car has a 140L not a 140E transmission in it. The previous owner must have changed it out before I got it for my daughter and just now noticed the OD light flashing (clicked the switch. Sorry for the trouble,
Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

I started to suspect this too
that's why I asked for pictures
Now i want you to test if your overdrive gear is working
If not, I will make a wiring schematics how to get rid of the computer and restore function of overdrive switch
this will enable your O/d indicator and the overdrive gear to work correctly!

It seems to shift ok to 4 gears, the od light blinks when the od switch is on.
There is a black and a white wire coming from the transmission that is connected to the connector you showed me a picture of. I can verify what it is connected to.
Thank you,
Jmccamish
