re: Interior questions...

Aloha Folks-

Of course I wish I could win the lottery and "pimp-my-ride" as they say but just have to dream for now. Am enjoying this 89 wagon very much.

The interior is in very nice shape. As I have mentioned in the past, I have seen Camrys from our generation with the leather option and they are very nice.

I met with a good upholstery shop in my area yesterday that had rebuilt my truck seats. So, I was curious just to ask them what it would run to rebuild the seats (if the frames needed any attention, building up the lumbar area in the drivers seat) and wrap them in blue leather to match my interior. He said about $1400.00. I am curious if any of you would go for it? If so, is that a fair price?

I was also looking at putting in a new molded carpet kit and wanted to see what brands-companies members here have used with good success? I thought if I went threw with this, I could also put some more sound dampening material down like Dynamat before the carpet kit goes down.

Again, just thinking about these things and what might be the best approach. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Mahalo

re: leather seats...

Aloha Camrygt4-

Thank you for your reply. I have been trying to think do I get some body work and 2 stage paint done first or the seats? I know the ideal thing is probably the paint first but we are getting into the rainy season and I think I could cover-tape up the seats or remove most parts before painting was done.

I did go to another shop and they quoted me $1800.00 just to cover them in leather whereas the other shop that I have gone to in the past said 1400.00 and to make sure the frames are in good working order as well as to build up the lumbar support.

I am curious, I have the 3 dial driver seat that most folks have, do we even have a lumbar setting? I did find an automated driver seat at a salvage yard by me and thought if I could hook it up that would be great. I noticed that there is an electrical connection underneath my seat but that maybe for the seat belt indicator. I am not sure if the automated seat has a lumbar function on it. Too many choices!

Take care now.

Many of the LE drivers side seat have a lumbar adjustment on the right side of the seat as a small lever that you pull forward. Since it is a mechanical system, each time you pull it, the lumbar portion ratchets forward slightly until it resets itself and starts over again. If you find one of the electric seats they also have the lumbar lever.

re: seat and ES250 trim pieces

Aloha es250nut,

I cannot believe that I have not noticed that lumbar lever on the right side of the driver's seat! Thank you for pointing that out.

I was at a salvage yard today and there is a 1990 LE Camry that has the power seat which includes the side lever too. I am thinking about getting it as it looks just like mine but has power. I just wonder if the electrical hookup that is currently under my seat right now would be the correct "plug" to mate with the powered seat?

I also found a Lexus ES250 today and grabbed the front door panel wooden trim rings. I think Grego said they work with our Camrys and that we can reuse our switches to mate with these trim rings. I hope that is correct?

Thanks again for all of your help.

The visible 2-pin plug on your current seats is only for the seatbelt warning.

You will have to check (probably below the carpet) if you have the power seat connections. If not, it shouldn't be a huge challenge to wire them up - just make sure you get the harness...

re: seat and ES250 trim pieces

Aloha Charlie & 71Corolla-
Thanks for the heads up and advice! Charlie if my interior were not nice I would go for your set! I am sure someone will be happy to have your set!

When I take the power seat out I will check out the wire harness to be sure that it is not different from what is already present in my setup.

I also found a decent set of front seats in an ES250 but I remember BeeRad mentioning that there was no lumbar adjustment and sure enough, he was right. The door panels are nice too but I know they will not work in my Camry. Just have to figure out how to make the wood trim pieces work properly for the switches up front in my doors.

Take care now.

re: front electric powered seat...

Aloha Charlie and 71Corolla-

Well, I got a pretty nice front electric-automatic driver's side seat from I think a 1990-1991 Camry. I almost gave up because the last person driving this car before being donated to the salvage yard had the seat adjusted right over the attachment points if you know what I mean. I wish there was a manual override so I could make the seat slide forward or backward to expose the parts of the seat frame that attach to the floor. Anyhow, much time and patience with a 14mm open-end wrench I was able to finally get all 5 bolts off and remove the seat.

I did get the wire harness from where it connected with a larger bundle. I am hoping that the harness under my seat now looks like this one, that way I will know that these cars or at least mine was wired up for either the manual or electric style of seat..

Now I have to figure out how hard it is to put in a new carpet kit and where to get that from?
