speedo calibration

hey guys. i've got a 88 camry with m/t, that's speedo is off and needs calibrating. the car is completly stock down to the rims. i've got the right size tires and everything. is there something that you can do yourself to fix this or do you have to take the car into a shop to have your speedo calibrated? i thought, maybe it's a worn out gear on the speed sensor and i can just replace that, but i'm not 100% sure. need some advice, please! thanks.

How far is it off? How have you checked? Does the speedo jump or look uneven as you accelerate?

There isn't any adjustments I'm aware of, as it is a complete mechanical unit...

sorry for the super late reply, charlie. been busy with work. the speedo is off by 5-6 mph. the speedo reads faster than what i'm actually going. i use my gps because my speedo is off. the gps tells me that i'm going 45mph when my speedo reads 50-51mph. it's not a big deal to keep using my gps for my speed. i just thought there would be some sort of diy fix calibration.

I have pretty much the exact same issue. I look at it from the point of view that I'm less likely to get a speeding ticket.

I don't know about the Gen 2 Camry, but I know with most older Suzuki speedometers, there is a screw used to adjust the tension in the mechanism... You tighten that screw a smidge to bring the reading down and loosen it to bring the reading up. Might be worth checking to see if these have that screw hidden somewhere.
