re: Headlight & rear lights questions...

Aloha Folks-

As many of you know, I have an 89 Camry Wagon.

Well, just noticed one of the headlights (driver's side) went out. I went an got the 9004 bulb and when I popped the hood I saw things in the way.

Do I have to remove the battery and the radiator overflow bottle? Curious if there is an easier way to do this?

Secondly, I have that annoying lighted indicator on my dash that is speaking about the bulbs in the rear. All of them work except for the one on lift-gate in the middle of the glass. You access it by the interior. I put a bulb in it and for a moment the indicator went off but as soon as pressed the brake pedal or took of the emergency brake, the indicator came on.

All the other bulbs in the area work. I heard that this lift-gate on the wagon can be a problem. What suggestions would you give me to get this light not only working but also to turn off the indicator on the dash?

Any and all advice appreciated for the 2 above.
Mahalo!

just disconnect your overflow and then pull up on it, it comes right out.

then twist the retaining ring on the headlight housing where the wire goes to, yet be careful, if your headlight is still sealed, the bulb will be hard to pull out and the seal will physically pop. then just pull off your old bulb and put the new one in.

and reminder, dont touch the glass of the bulb with your fingers

make sure your brake bulb is the correct one. check grounds etc, before looking for frayed wires and the failure box.

re: lights

Aloha Dem27-

So, when you say, disconnect do you also mean the hoses? I ask because there is some coolant inside my overflow, so I just want to be ready.
Thanks again.

just the overflows supply tube. the cap just will pop off, some coolant will run out of the line going into the bottle, then just take the bottle out by pulling up. you an leave the coolant in the bottle, or drain it and clean the bottle while its out.

re: lights

Aloha Dem2757-

Thank you again. Did not realize it was that easy, meaning to just "pull" up on that over-flow bottle. I thought there were other parts/screws that had to be removed.

Now to figure out the back light on the wagon's lift gate. I have heard from other wagon owner's that this was a problem-weak point.

Thanks again.

no problem!

check to make sure that that bulb is indeed the correct one and that it is their nice and tight. also, check your brake pedal switch in the car to see if its frayed or worn

my brake light would come on when braking because my pads were so worn to the point of the fluid dropping too low. just throwing that out there! hope its an easy fix
