I installed a new cap rotor wires and plugs from rock auto last month. My gas mileage has dropped a 5-7 miles to the gallon. It also seems to be getting progressively more sluggish. Unfortunately I purchased an a/c deco tuneup parts from rock before I read to only buy Toyota parts. I don't see Toyota parts being available forvthisvyear. Is there another place i should try before going to the stealer? Can I get away with just the cap and rotor? I bought platinum plugs but not NGk. The cap with rotor and wires was the best one that a/c deco had listed on rock auto. Should I junk the new wires too?
I just resently did plugs, wires/cap, rotor, filters and etc on mine...but my main issue was the timing belt was off by a tooth or two, that was killing my gas mileage and the performance.
Try checking the timing and see what it is at, maybe you mite be off a little.

I'll see if I can find a friend with a timing light. Im still leaning towards the a/c deco parts as the problem thou after reading some posts here about only getting genuine Toyota ignition parts.
You can test the cap/wires and rotor with a multimeter pretty easily. Also, change out the spark plugs to the standard NGK or Denso copper plugs for the motor. They should be like $1.99 each locally.
If the new plugs don't fix it, it might be worth pulling off the top timing cover to make sure everything is good in there. You could also get a set of stock wires/cap/rotor and try that, but do the cheap stuff first...

Thanks Charlie, Toyota dealer wants $167 for the cap and wires. No thanks! I think I'll try the plugs and other things you recommended first. Tim
Damn! MSRP on the cap/wire assembly is about $110. You can get it online for $80-$90 (try 1st Toyota Parts and others). The Toyota part number is 1910174030.
Let your local dealer know they are smoking crack on that price... Normally local dealers can't match/beat the online price, but at least they can usually get close.

Ya, that's crazy! I ordered from Toyota-parts-.com out of Michigan. $87 for te cap and wires, $7 for the rotor, $15 for the filter and $1.25 or so for the plugs. Sure beats paying retail in Naperville il! $9 for shipping. I held off on the timing belt and water pump till spring. I hope I don't regret it as I just turned 70,000.
Thanks turbo. Wow $45, that's a good deal.
TurboATM Holy crap thats expensive stuff...i thought paying 45 for my cap/wires was high! (I work at a shop with a baller discount, lol)
If you need anything, hit me up, i may can cut you a deal!!
