1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Its been a while since I treated the Camry to some goodies since the RPF1's so I made a purchase the other day along with an oil change.
I bought:
-New front corner lights
-Amber light film (make JDM Corner Lights)
-Downpipe (Fix my exhaust leak!)
-Muffler (give it a deep sound thats not obnoxious lol)
i have HIDs in my headlights and fogs already...i was going to attempt the projector retrofit, but couldnt get my lenses apart. so im going to wait until i can get my hands on a spare set to mess around with just in case.
Got my downpipe in so far and my amber light film for the corners.
The muffler should be here tomorrow, and the Corner light should be here either tomorrow or monday!
that's funny, i just cut off that downpipe on my '90.. flexible section was leaking bad. made a cut just ahead of the flex section and it fell right off (flange was rusted out). clamped in a flex exhaust tube from fleet farm, and now i can hear the radio again. it's not fancy, but it sure beats the soda can i had hose-clamped on right after i bought the car. XP
do those flex sections wear out often? mine was leaking something awful, and my buddy's gen 3 is getting there...

They last 5-20 years, generally. It mostly depends on road salt/conditions. If you just need a flex section, its cheap at an exhaust shop - I had one replaced on my Alltrac soon after I got it.
Most newer cars (<10 years old) have stainless steel exhaust systems and are much less prone to problems.

They replaced my flex pipe with OEM due to the only one being around. not cheap either
flex pipe- back is (im assuming) regular steel as my muffler rusted out along the bend to get it up and over the rear wheel suspension.. i wish i could go back to the oem muffler with the chrome tips but its not worth the money
I just replaced my entire exhaust front to back just with plain old stock pipe.
I really don't care much for sound but I'd like my Camry to look good and not so battered
if you could help me out with this that would be awesome!
what parts (name/make) would I need to lower my camry 2" ??
any aftermarket body kits I could get (not that duraflex crap) ??

search for lowering..
I have KYB GR-2 Struts and Intrax Lowering springs...but i got the last new set in the U.S...so you would have to look around or you could do celica coilovers.
There are no body kits in production anymore other than the duraflex kit.

Hmmm...you turned your turn signals into fogs, or used another housing..? And if they are the oem unit, how is the plastic holding up to the heat of the HID?

I added fogs behind the lower grille and they are a full metal/glass housing.
The downpipe is on and I love it! With no leaky flex pipe the car seems to be a little quicker now that its not losing back pressure.
She is in winter mode so the RPF1's are in the garage. lol
I really want to get this car finished up and done so my 3000GT swap is on hold until the Gen2 is finished.
Next mods are:
20mm Rear Spacers
JDM Amber Sidemarkers
Paint Engine Black & Purple
Purple Lug Nuts (Car is going to have a black and purple theme. My 3000GT is white and purple theme)
Black Paintjob (started sanding the clear coat off the roof already)
I also tinted my new front corner lights with the amber film and installed them.
Ever see JDM front corners on a Gen2? lol
And of course, some new stickers for the rear window!
