Car Accident - Need help!

Hello,

I'm new here but I really need some information. I was involved in a car accident on January 16th.

My 1986 Toyota Camry has been crushed in the front. By the looks of it the engine still runs and 90% of the damage is to the body (bumper, fender, hood, grill, headlights)

I'm having problems with my insurance company so I may have to foot the bill myself if I want to fix it.

I really don't want to scrap this car! Is there any information on which model Camry I can look for to swap parts with? I will hunt scrap yards if I must. I'm assuming parts on 83-86 are mostly interchangeable? How about 87?

I was hoping to buy a scrap Camry as a parts car but kijiji/Craigslist turned up nothing for me.

Sad to say I feel hopeless in my quest to restore my Camry to her former glory. any and all info would be appreciated!

You might try trolling pick-a-part junkyards, as well! I'm not positive but I believe the generation swap was about mid '87... So you may or may not be able to find any of the right year there.

The old Gen 1 and Gen 2 Camrys are tough as nails. Hopefully someone else will chip in with better knowledge soon.

Good luck!

i hate to say it but a lot of insurance company will 'total' it out due to age and the blue book.

Your best bet is to 'buy' it from them after they give you an amount (or basically pay out of pocket) for the repair.

The 83 ~ 86 is mostly swappable. The 83~84 had different front head lights and the power attenna was on the drivers side VS passenger side for the 85 and 86

How bad is the damage?

To locate used Toyota parts::preach

Option #1
On craigslist Post WTB (want to buy) under Auto's what you are looking for in the way of year and model of Camry you are wanting. Let the sellers find you, you may have to re-post a couple of times.

Option # 2
Go to your local salvage yard and they can check on their local online to see if any other salvage yards might have the parts your looking for.

Check Goodwill auto auctions. Cars go pretty cheap. A lot of them have engine or tranny problems. But yours is fine. Good luck. Keep your eyes open and ask friends and family to keep an eye out for cars with for sale signs.
