Newbie Question....90 camry 16v swap

I'm a veedubber at heart, but I have a 1990 camry wagon 16v 2.0 or 2.2, can't remember right now. that is my winter beater. But i gotta admit, I love the thing.

I believe the engine code is the 3s ge?

Anyhow, I heard a rumor that the mr2 motor can be swapped in, is this true? I have an automatic tranny right now, did they make an auto mr2?

What a sleeper this would be! I'd sell the corrado for a 14 second camry wagon in a heartbeat!

Thanks

Eric

The engine you have presently is a 3S-FE.

You can swap in a 3S-GTE from a MRs, but you should get the manual tranny from either the 88-91 V6 or the Solara. The MR2 version of the tranny has the linkage in a different position.

When swapping the engine, you will need the ECU and wiring harness too...

Celica All Trac / GT4 also come with a 3S-GTE.

I suggest a E153 tranny from a V6 Camry / Solara or MR2. But if you use one from a MR2 it needs to be modified.

You need more then just the engine, ecu, and wiring harness.

Your better off buying a clip, that way you have everything you need instead of trying to piece stuff together.

There is no automatic MR2 Turbo by the way. You will have to do a 5 speed conversion. Or you could swap in a JDM 3sge (Hi performance version of your current engine) since it was available with an auto but your car is not going to run 14's with it. More like 15's.
