1987 Camry compression?

I'm going in for a smog check (check only station... think I'm in trouble? Haha). My last smog was 2 years ago and I barely passed the HC (HydroCarbon). Looking online, I think it means I have bad compression or misfire. Well, the timing can't be changed and the cap/rotor/wires tested fine. Cyl 1 & 2 look ok and sparks wore normally. 3 & 4 had oil. Compression was:
#1 - 120 psi
#2 - 120 psi
#3 - 100 psi
#4 - 100 psi

My compression tester doesn't have a peak hold, so while the engine was running, I was watching the needle bounce and watched for peaks. Anyways, I'm about to change my sparks for the hell of it before testing. And filling with high octane gas. Anything else I should think of? Oh yeah, what's compression supposed to be?

Thanx!

Jae

no idea on what it should be but looks like your losing compression in the back 2 pistions. check your head gasket as i might be leaking or you pistion rings back there might also be going. also the valves might not be closing back tight. try and use some cleaners for that like seafoam and the expensive injector cleaners that help with cleaning the valves. but as you said that the back 2 had oil in them your problem is more or less one or both of the 1st things i said

use the thickest oil you can find. this will help the ouil from leaking in to the back 2 pistons and lowing the emmisions.

your compression is way too low
minimum is 142psi standard is 178psi

use valvoline 50 it's thicker and use engine restorer the v8 can also retard the timing and have your injection system flushed then you'll pass. i did it to an escort i owned

Thanx for the suggestions. Yeah, I got a feeling the engine's not up to par. Oh well... it's a spare car anyways.
I passed testing. I bought some Denso Platinum sparks and threw them in, pumped 91 octane, and kept the car idling while waiting. Here's the results:
%co2 %o2 HC (ppm) CO (%) NO (ppm)
test rpm meas meas max ave meas max ave meas max ave meas
15mph 1715 14.5 0.1 118 31 45 0.75 0.10 0.26 799 237 666
25mph 1703 14.4 0.1 93 20 37 0.63 0.09 0.26 738 199 666
