Well if your gonna swap to a 3S-GTE in the future I would use the tranny from a MR2 Turbo.

I don't know if the tranny will bolt up to a 3S-FE or not, so you'll have to find out.

Mmmmm... that's what my plan is.

Save enough cash to pay for doing a stock auto -> MR2 Turbo manual tranny swap and the 3S-GTE engine swap (and exhaust system upgrade) at the same time.

It may take some time, but I hope it'll be worth it.

Now I just have to re-learn driving stick, last manual car I drove was a very old 4-speed Datsun... and that was years ago.

Obviously...

Well...there was a manual tranny made for this exact engine, and I believe its M/T (manual transmission of course, duh) A140E, and A140L....there are two labels on the drivers side door jam, on the door itself..that tell in the coding what Transmission you have..it will say a140E or not..but anyway I think you can just find a manual a140E...i'm going off a guess here, based on the fact that I know there was a manual transmission made with this engine....

I have an automatic A140E with a 3sfe engine, and I will be switching the engine out to a 3sgte..(i hope, if it's feasible enough)....I just know the manual tranny is more likely to handle the power output from the 3sgte when i put it in...and i've heard the a140e would actually bolt right to the 3sgte

hope this helps, save for OVERKILL on my part

OH YEAH the A140L was mostly if not all found on the gen 1 camrys...the a140E is the Electric governor transmission....important when doing wiring and such

The manual Tranny for the 3sge which can be found in 86-89 celica GT-S's will fit the 3sfe just fine. Also it is much stronger and has better gear ratios and should work with the 3sgte should you ever decide to do that swap also. I will be throwing in that manual tranny on my 2nd gen later this summer.

The a140E is only an automatic transmission. The A tells you it is an automatic. I don't know the manual tranny codes but I can tell you it doesn't start with A. Also the A140E will not bolt up to the 3sgte since there is no such thing as a 3sgte comming in an automatic. If you are doing a manual tranny swap and plan on putting a 3sgte in your car later I suggest either the 2nd gen V6 manual tranny(you will have to change transfer cases but it will bolt up everywhere else) or put the tranny that tailsman said the 86-89 celica GT-S manual tranny. The one from the celica is actually as easier swap beause you can keep the same axles you have. The only thing with the celica one is you have to figure out how many bolts the crank has for the flywheel because the 3sfe came with a 6 bolt and an 8 bolt and you have to get the right flywheel for that. As for the MR2 turbo tranny it will bolt up to the 3sfe since the MR2 has thh same block however this swap is a lot harder because you have to find the right axles(might even have to get custom made which is expensive), the linkages will probably have to be custom made and I believe custom mounts.

thanks for clearing that up

I had a feeling the A was automatic...anyway, so the best route would be to put a 3sgte in with the manual Celica tranny...with no change needed on the axles..thats really the answer I myself have been looking for...that i couldn't seem to find straight anywhere....

I found a v6 1mzfe in a 94 camry, so i thought about buying that car...the engine is froze, anyway, and dropping a 3sgte in that...I suppose going with the v6 tranny on that would be the ticket?

i like this board...best community effort i have seen
