questions about 87 V6 camery power and MPG

questions about 87 V6 Camry power and MPG

What kind of HP does one have stock? Torque?

Any hauling or load ratings?

I was looking for another engine option for a 80s gm station wagon.
Stock they came with many motors, a big v8 diesel n gas down to a small olds v8 and a V6 at runs end. about 150hp tops.

I just have a chance to get a whole drive train for near nothing that ran great. Still runs great.

Instead of going with a small American V8 V6 for it I thought that would work good.
Run great and should get better mileage.
I just want to make sure it will have enough power though.

I like the wagon as it a steel tank.

They didn't make v6 Camrys in 1987. The first year was 1988, but anyway, they have 157hp stock at 4400rpm and 160lb/lbs of tq at 5500 I believe.

Oh yeah, I got about 22 mpg in mine when she ran.

Hopefully I can get her back together this week

Hm well i have a 90 ES250 manual and I havent found any power mods yet. I would really like to drop in the 92-93 camry motor which has 30 hp more. I'd have to make custom mounts for the front and the EGR would be a trick to handle. I've done side by side comparisons of both cars and it's possible but you'd have to pay attention to a lot of details. If you could get one thats been mashed in the back, you'd have the best model to work with.

Back to mods........there isn't many speed products for this car at all. Headers would be nice but being in CA I'd have to swap them back for every smog. I'd also be interested in doing a cam swap from the 3.0L V6 but I don't know if I would have piston interference. Would have to pull the motor and everything. Another idea I've played with is....

The 88-90 motor is 9:1 compression, the 92 (3.0L) motor is 9.6:1. The pistions are the same dia, but I don't know the wrist pin location. I do know the piston in the 1mz motor is less dished than my 2.5L pistons. So if the 92 pistons and the 1mz pistons are the same dia. You could use later model pistons to up the compression. The only problem there is valve interference and engine knock. My engine has only one knock sensor so on that you're playing with fire.

This is something I'll probably never actually do, but if I had the right opportunity I'd probably go for it.
