90 Camry tranny replacement

I have a 1990 4 cylinder automatic tranny (A140E) that needs replacement. I can get a used import tranny with a 1 year warranty for $350.00. The local junkyards want atleast that much for one with only a 30 day warranty. The Japon import tranny seams like a good way to go. Any comments on these trannys?

As the fluid was burnt in my bad tranny, any advice on flushing the tranny cooler? Any tips on changing the tranny, how many hours is it supposed to take to swap it? Any common mistakes to watch out for? I have never worked on a front wheel drive car before.

You will deffinately need the Chiltons or Haynes manual for the car. You can get that at your local auto parts house. It will tell you EVERYTHING you want to know.

And where in montana do you live? This brings up the total MT members on ToyotaNation to 3!

BTW i live in missoula.

Do you have a lift?

if not, its going to be a bitch. The way the tranny sits in there you have to drop it from the bottom, you cant pull it from the top.

Its not really that hard, if you have the right tools and at least some experience you can get it done in 2 days pretty easily.

i had to replace mine last year, it took a full day, but i had a lift and full supply of air tools, which made it a lot easier.

The Haynes manual isnt that great for something like this. It will tell you basically what needs to be removed, but it wont really help you if you didnt already know basically what you were doing.
