1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I thought maybe since we are few in numbers we could have a friendly discussion/bragging thread! Keep it friendly because the last gen2 crew thread got vicious...

Near Future Plans:
I need to get a job because I am out of money
However, I really want to fabricate a CAI so I can have a wee bit more on the top end. ALso, I want to do eletrical system upgrades
Future Plans:
Full suspension
Hopefully turbo... but probably not
Remember, keep it friendly! We all have to stick together!
I've got two of them, but soon I'll only have one. Here's a pic.
1989 DX, 3S-FE, 5spd
Mods: Everything I've done is going into my 1987.
It was hit by a stolen minivan going somewhere around 80-100 while the camry was doing about 65. She's still being held in my driveway under a tarp until my insurance claim is finished (hopefully soon). This car, in all of its approx 340-350k, had only a single breakdown. The fuel pump burnt out once. Couldn't ask for a better car. I ended up replacing the engine/tranny/suspension for better performance and reliability anyways shortly before it was wrecked.
1987 DX, 3S-FE, 5spd
I picked up this one a few months ago. It was imported into Canada in 1995, and still has an Interstate battery in it. It looked bad, and smelled even worse. The interior was trashed. It came with a new bottom end, a new clutch, new alternator, and a new starter. Runs great, hovering around 400k.
Mods:
Removed carpet, cleaned it out, replaced with '89s carpet
Installed blue velour LE seats all around, with rear-folding
Blue leather shifter knob from an old celica
Toyota digital instrument cluster
Got rid of the instrument cluster panel, and put in the '89s. Looks nicer.
Got rid of the awful steering wheel, and put in the '89s wheel
Intermit. wipers
Cheap sound system that sounds ok
Ripped out the aftermarket cruise, and installed most of a factory unit. Needs work.
