I am new to this board and would appreciate insight to a my starting problems with my 1990 Camry LE V6 especially on colde or damp type of mornings. I have replaced the all the plugs, gas filter, ignition wires and cap/rotor. Should I now replace the ignition coil? Is that an easy install procedure. Do I need to disconnect the battery leads. Thanks for your help.
the one for the 2vz-fe (your engine) is located on the right side of the intake manifold (the thing that says toyota in red letters, sorry, had to do it ) it can soemtimes get clogged with carbon. mine is pretty bad too. when you pull it out, it woul dbe a good idea to take some TB/Intake cleaner and shoot it into the intake.
when i do mine, i will do a how to, although i think ToysRme already did...let me PM him and get him in here, he can tell you more about it than i can.

Ignition coils are about the last part of the ignition system(minus the ECU itself) that will ever go bad.
This is for a 3vz-fe, but if a 2vz-fe has a cold-start injector, than the same stuff holds true.
Location - Side of the Upper Intake Chamber
Dirty - caked with Carbon from the EGR system that is constantly on
Clean
Easyest way to clean it is simply twist one of the foam sanding blocks around it until it's pretty. There is a tiny dot in the two notches on the end of the thing. That's what must be clean, free of debris. It makes a mess, so do it in a sink like I did.
Also, before you disconnect the banjo bolt that supplys the injector it's fuel, remove your gas cap. That will relieve the majority of the fuel pressure from the system! Better that than getting a face full of fuel!!!

^ This is a fantastic piece of information, that i'm sure not many people have realised!
Well Done.

We've all read it, we've all done it.
I have forgotten that about half the time I've taken mine off.
There can be a lot of pressure in that line, and it can keep the pressure going for a good little bit if the car was running right before you do it hahahaha

GJ, we all learned that 2vz-fe's do, in fact have cold-start injectors.
