1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
What do you guys think? If I could sell 10 sets, I could probably get something worked out, much like Justin/Wraith did for the gen3 Camry guys. The price would most like likely be somewhere in the $800-1000 range. If there is sufficient interest, I will get more details for everyone.
This is just to gauge interest. I know this is going to be tough in the gen2 crowd, but I'm hoping that a performance item like this will work out better than the old carbon fiber hood fiasco.
Please post your comments and what features you are most interested in (height adjustability, chamber adjustability, damper adjustments, etc.).
Thanks,
Charlie

the thing is... d2 make coil overs for our car... :o cant you fit celica coil overs anyway?

This would be through D2. I'd be talking a little to Justin about this, and also to another friend of mine who has a good relationship w/ them.
We can check if they do coilovers for the 90-03 Celica or the 87-89 Celica because those supposedly bolt-in. At that point, we would pick spring rates and dampers to fit the chassis...
These would work for both the I4 and V6 as they would be hight adjustable - if you really want you could get stiffer front springs for the V6 without much problem (with the turbo, my car is as heavy as a V6 up front...).

I'm interested but i'm pretty sure i wont have the funds available for it, let alone that it will need to be shipped over here.
side note, i've been told that st162 and sv21 front struts are the same, also the rear brakes seem very similar so they're struts might be too but i'm not going stand by that until i have time to check it and measure it all up later this month...
I'm just trying to get an idea if this is worth investigating more. I would be easy enough for me to grab some Celica ST162 struts and test them out on my Camry... Or look up some part numbers for strut tops and hubs to see if they match up. I just need to know if its worthwhile.
Right now, I'm happy enough with the suspension in my Camry (Intrax springs, tokico struts, whiteline F/R swaybars and full poly bushings) for a daily driver, so its not worth it to me to do this just for myself - I'd be happy to help put this deal together though and get a set along with some other people if there is interest.
If somebody has concrete information about other parts fitting, please post it up.
Thanks guys,
Charlie

Honestly, I'm interested in any suspension improvements, so I'm with you there.
For the longest, I've been trying to find information on poly bushings for both of my Gen2's.
I remember way back when Patrick first had his Gen2, he mentioned to me how he used Prothane bushings; but that remains a gray area to me. If you have any info, please let me know. I'm planning to have a very busy spring/summer with my Gen2 projects this year.
Regarding the coilovers, what I would like to understand is what timeframe from the word "GO" do you have in mind? Are we talking plans to have something for this spring/summer?

Whiteline has a poly bushing kit for gen 2s. IIRC it comes with something like 15 bushings.

The kit is distributed through Whiteline, but is produced by SuperPro. I got mine through Sean and CT Motorsport... I have yet to install the rears, but the front bushings have already been a great improvement (of course, I put in the front swaybar at the same time...).
As for timeframe - I can't imagine this getting done before mid to late summer.
