1988 wagon fuel pump removal

I have a 1988 wagon that needs the fuel pump replaced. Is the pump in the tank? If so do I have to drop the tank to get at it? I lifted the back seat up and found the access to the gauge sending unit, but don't see access to the pump from inside the car.

you'll need to drop the tank. all you do is jack the car up and then drop the tank straps, disconnect the lines, and remember to disconnect the electric cables that you mentioned. once the straps are off, all it will take is a little movement of the tank fore,aft, left, right to get the tank out. REMEMBER try to get as much fuel out as possible as it might be a tad heavy i was able to drop and empty tank by myself, a half full one with a friend.

just take ur time and check that all the lines are off...if u need to spray some silicon lubricant onto the lines and the nuts as they might be a bit tough to get out.

the pump will be inside the tank, its the behind the fuel sender unit.

Thanks for the info. I was going crazy looking for the pump access. Why would they provide access to the sending unit and not the pump? Trying to keep the dealerships in business?
