There are seals/rubbers around the spark plug tubes, under the valve cover. Replace them..and itll be all good.

They are called Spark Plug Tube Seals

You can either get them from Toyota (approx $10 each) or at any auto parts chain.

Advance Auto Parts has them by Beck Arnley and Felpro:

Beck/Arnley 0396420
Spark Plug Tube Seal: 4 Per Package - $3.77

Fel Pro ES70739
SPARK PLUG TUBE SEAL SET - $19.98

Here's a pic of the Beck Arnley product -

Use a 30mm socket (preferred) or good adjustable wrench to remove the old ones and replace the new ones.

I believe the proper torque is 17 ft lbs.
Anyone else feel free to correct me if I'm wrong regarding the torque setting.
I do not have my manual with me at the moment.

Good luck.

o yea by the way, oil was in my spark plug tubes in puddles, not jus along the walls. i mean i could dip my finger in there and it would be like a puddle of water except it was oil, not water.
replacing these seals will keep oil out of that tube and keep it dry?

The oil is most likely leaking in through the bottom of the spark plug tubes.

The spark plug tubes thread into the head and require a special tool to remove. Or you can take your chances with a pair of channel locks, and hope that you don't smash the tubes.

I would first just try to thorougly clean the oil out of each spark plug well (I used a rag wrapped around a slotted screwdriver for this) and then retorque the 30 MM nuts to 17 foot lbs using a torque wrench. Check again in a couple of thousand miles and see if any more oil has pooled down there. If it has, then replace the tube seals. I retightened the tubes in my generation 3 5SFE engine this way about 3 years ago and have seen no further oil since then.

To the guys that are having oil puddling issues: what weight oil do you use and is it crude or synthetic oil?

You should experience a slightly rough startup and then theer should be no issue.

Im sorry..this makes no sense to me.
What oil wil make is "experience a slightly rough startup and then theer should be no issue"?
And why would a difference in synthetic/dyno cause a leak like that?
