gen2 91 camry damaged spark plug wires

hey everyone,
when i was inspecting my spark plug wires, i found that the end of one of my wires was cracked down the middle. i don't kno wut its called but its at the end of the stick that touches the spark plug(i guess that part fires it, i don't kno). apparently someone bashed the wire in when they were trying to put it back on and cracked that bottom part. i contacted toyota and they said the wire set was about 90 dollars! that is a big break in my bank. would i be able to repair the wires i have now, meaning if i could somehow superglue the crack shut, or is it too risky(although my car is still running fine with it cracked but i noticed a loss in power)? also, the aftermarket wiresets seem to be cheaper at my auto parts store, like 40 to 50 dollars. are those crappy then OEM wires or are they a good replacement for a 91 camry with 160k miles on it like mine?? which one would be the safe road for me
-thanks

You can get wires almost anywhere.

If you prefer Toyota parts, try http://www.toyotaparts4u.com or http://www.toyotaandlexusparts.com.

Cool

If it's just the insulation, I would just seal it with silicon/rubber (NOT VYNIL ELECTRICAL TAPE, REAL RUBBER/SILICON FOR ELECTRONICS) to re-seal it and keep it from grounding until you can afford new wires.

If it's anything electrical I wouldn't touch it. Buy new ones.

Cool

btw take my word for it... If the ignition coil is in good shape the spark will jump from the end of the boot on the ignitor, distributor, or spark plug boot to your finger.

Even tho there is a good 1/4" of air to jump through, that's nothing for the current these things store. (It doesn't "hurt" per say, but it will make you jump out of your fucking skin!)

I would go with a good quality set of aftermarket wires from a reputable manufacturer, like Borg Warner or NGK. With the miles you have on your Camry they would probably be a good investment. These wires (Toyota or aftermarket) are so expensive because the distributor cap and spark plug wires are integerated in to a 1 peice unit. You can't change just the wires or just the distributor cap.
