2nd Generation 88 Camry wagon all trac conversion

Hi everyone, my father's '88 I4 front drive Camry wagon just went out with a blown head. I was wondering if I could do an engine swap and convert it to an all trac version. If it could be done, then what engine should I drop in and what drive train should I use? Also, how much would it cost to do it? Anyone who knows anything about the second gen Camry please give me some information about all trac conversions. Thanks.

It would be really cool if I could turn the wagon into a sports wagon with 4 wheel drive and a more powerful engine! I'm thinking about dropping in a turbo charged engine too.

anything can be done for the right amount of money. it just happens that the right amount of money to do that to a gen2 could probably get you in a gen4... or gen5

Think you would be better off trying to find an all-trac and work on it. If you ahd all the pieces and parts you could probably do it. But first you have to find all the parts and pieces. I bet you dont hear of to many all-trac transaxles laying around or the rear axle housing and Cv axles and and and.....

I think it is unlickely that this would work.
I have owned a 2 wheel drive camry (gen2) en now i have a 4wd (gen2) camry.
The chassis of the 2 wheel drive is SV21 and the chassis of the 4wd is SV25.
I have looking under both the cars and here are the differenses.
2wheel: gastank under rear passenger sead and trunk is 20 centimter lower total middle tunnel is wider since it needs to give room to the drive shaft and exquast.
4wheel: gastank is under the trunk to trunk is 20 centimeter higer and spare wheel is also ontop op fuel tank. more room for the sub frame and differential and wider middle shaft.
I think it's more wise to find one who is....running or not since you could fix it up to. Hope you can do something with my info.

Erik

Blown headgasket or something within the cylinder head? If its just a blown headgasket, I'd replace it.

And if its more serious you have a few options:

1. Rebuild the engine.

2. Swap in a JDM 3S-FE.

3. Swap to a 3S-GE or 3S-GTE.
